Dixon Hughes Comments on Important Changes Proposed for Critical Access Hospitals
Dixon Hughes has filed a comment letter with CMS related to the proposed provider-based regulations for CAHs. As we previously remarked in our August 2 Bulletin, we believe the proposed regulations will significantly curtail the creation of off-campus provider-based functions for many CAHs. We have taken the opportunity in the comment letter to make other points about the provider-based determination, such as timing and the reasons why we believe it is necessary to be able to continue the ability to establish off-campus functions. Read our comment letter here.
As noted in our August 2 Bulletin, please take the time to draft your own comments based on experiences present in your own community. The more specific you can be, the better.
Annual Option II Election Reminder: For 9/30 year-end CAHs, if you have elected the annual Outpatient Option II payment methodology in the past or are intending to make this election for FY 08, the deadline for the annual election is 30 days prior to the beginning of your fiscal year beginning date. Time is of the essence at this point, but if you need assistance or have questions please contact Kevin Callaway at kevin.callaway@dhgllp.com at Dixon Hughes, or refer to the CMS instructions on electing the Optional Method as well as the billing and reimbursement for the applicable professional services on page 116 by visiting the CMS web site at http://www.cms.hhs.gov/manuals/downloads/clm104c04.pdf.
