#MeToo – Fostering a Culture of Respect

Sexual harassment in the workplace is an incredibly relevant topic with widespread discussion evolving from the #MeToo anti-harassment movement. We are continuing the global conversation at DHG as we set expectations for workplace behavior and solidify a culture of respect to ensure that all of our people have what they need to progress and build their own valuable careers.

Last month we hosted an anti-harassment panel discussion that was streamed live across our DHG locations. Titled “#MeToo – Leadership Perspectives on the Current Movement and DHG’s Culture of Respect,” the session featured insight from four DHG leaders as well as a Q&A with our DHG audience. With so many important points made, I wanted to share some of these key takeaways with you.

To me, it’s

CEO Blog Takeover: Embracing Change

CEO Blog Takeover: Embracing Change

In January I talked about the importance of change adaptability in achieving our DHG mission and strengthening the change “muscle” within ourselves. Establishing change as a core competency is top-of-mind for us, so much so that we have welcomed Jeff Outten as our Director of Change Management. He has been a friend of DHG for many years and has helped guide us through many new initiatives and opportunities. We are excited to welcome him to the DHG team and look forward to the innovation and growth that will result from his leadership. I am pleased to have Jeff join me this month to share his vision for change at DHG.

Changing Together as ONE DHG

When we think about change, our immediate reaction is often apprehension and anxiety. It may be that we are content with the present, or we fear the inability to thrive in a different environment. Regardless of the underlying cause of our anxiety, when you look beyond the initial discomfort, change can be the catalyst that leads to new ideas, valuable new skills and innovative solutions. In building valuable careers with our people, DHG seeks to exercise our change adaptability to strengthen the change “muscle” within ourselves.

ONE DHG – Greater Together

The DHG we know today is the product of several firms merging together, and many people, cultures, ideas and ways of doing things uniting. We are proud of our many differences and what makes us unique as a firm, but we also recognize the need for an overarching mindset that encourages our people to be open-minded, flexible and willing to work in new and different ways - together. At its core, ONE DHG is about looking holistically at whether we are working together the best that we can and operating in a way that puts our mission first – building valuable careers with our people and helping our clients achieve their goals.

As we continue to grow and evolve as a firm, it is important for us to reflect on how we function best when we view ourselves as one unified team. We can

CEO Blog Takeover: What a Ride…

At the end of this month our Chairman, and my friend, Kent Satterfield, will begin his retirement. Throughout his tenure at DHG, Kent has been a mentor to many, truly embodying our DHG values and teaching us what it means to make an impact. His contributions to the growth and success of the firm are endless, and his steadfast leadership and sharp wit will be remembered long after he leaves us on May 31st to begin retirement. Before Kent embarks on his next adventure, I asked him to share reflections on his time at DHG and some lessons he has learned. Please enjoy this blog from my friend, Kent. - Matt Snow, CEO

CEO Blog Takeover: Seizing Opportunities

In honor of Women’s History Month, I would like to spotlight one of our female leaders at DHG who inspires me every day with her passion, innovative thinking and positive attitude. She has had a unique career path which has shaped her into the resourceful leader she is today. Her experience makes her well-suited for sharing insight with young professionals on how to navigate their own unique paths and figure out how to integrate a career and life outside of work. With that, I’m pleased to hand the baton over to Lori Haley, Managing Partner of DHG’s Birmingham office, for a special CEO Blog takeover. Take it away Lori! – Matt Snow, CEO

As Matt mentions, my career path has been somewhat unique in that it has had many twists and

Six Things I Would Tell My 22-Year-Old Self

As we welcome a new class of spring interns to our DHG team, I think back to when I was in their shoes- nearing the end of college and in the process of figuring out my career path. At that time, I had no idea I would one day be a partner in an accounting firm. I never even put that down as a long term goal. However, I knew that I wanted to be in the accounting profession and that I aspired for upward mobility. Around this time, as I was being recruited, a partner at the firm where I ultimately ended up working took the time to tell me that he believed I could become a partner. That was the first time I ever really thought of myself as more than just an accounting student. I could actually see the end game of where this could go, and that encouragement really motivated me.
