Brett Bond is a Managing Director in DHG Corporate Finance’s Charlotte office and has more than 20 years in investment banking. Prior to co-founding DHG Corporate Finance with Marcus Fariss in 2015, he was a Managing Director with Cary Street Partners for 4 years; a Managing Director of Triarch Partners, LP, a boutique investment bank and broker dealer, which he co-founded in 2003; and a Director at Wachovia (formerly First Union Securities and Bowles Hollowell Conner), where he was a founding member of the Bank’s Fairness Opinion Committee. Prior to its acquisition by First Union Securities, he was an Associate with Wheat First Butch Singer where he was focused primarily on mergers and acquisitions of banks and thrifts. Read more.


Moe Brown is the Manager of Negotiated Incentives and Economic Development, and focuses on growth within the Carolinas and across the firm’s footprint. He partners with Development Advisors (DAI) to bring our clients the necessary resources to secure the best incentives and to strategically grow their businesses based on those incentives available to them.

Moe previously helped clients win market share, as well as secure government incentive packages, while working with Hill Impact LLC, a Communications and Government Affairs Firm. He also was a project manager for the Global Business Development Division for the South Carolina Department of Commerce, where he was a leading business recruiter for the state during his six-year tenure.

He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Finance and Marketing, while also serving as Captain of the Gamecock’s football team. He serves as a Board Member for the University of South Carolina’s Board of Visitors where he is responsible for assisting the Board of Trustees and President in the overall advancement of the University. Moe also serves as the Immediate-Past President of the University of South Carolina’s Association of Letterman. Read more.


As a Director in Dixon Hughes Goodman’s State and Local Tax practice, Tony Buffkin has more than 28 years of multi-state consulting experience and works with clients in close collaboration to identify and assess strengths and weaknesses of their sales and use tax function, including sales and use tax calculation and compliance processes, managing sales and use tax audits and evaluating sales and use tax exclusions and exemptions to determine the full extent of their application.  Tony has extensive experience with Tax Technology, Sales Tax Compliance, Nexus Reviews & Voluntary Disclosure, Refund Analysis and Recovery, Audit Preparation and Defense, Tax Planning, Taxability Studies, Process Analysis and Improvement, and Voluntary Disclosure Agreement Negotiation. He supports many of DHG’s largest clients by providing consulting for strategic tax planning, audit defense and controversy, and streamlining of compliance processes. Read more.


Nathan has 18 years of public accounting experience, including fifteen years with Big-4/national firms, with a deep focus on accounting method changes. His experience ranges from working with small privately held businesses to publicly traded, Fortune 500 companies. He has significant experience in retail, manufacturing, real estate, and hospitality industries, among others. Read more.


Hunter recently retired from Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP where for the last three years he was part of the firm's Professional Standards Group and a member of the AICPA's Auditing Standards Board. During his 19-year career at DHG he served as an office managing partner, member of the executive committee and leader of the firm's Manufacturing/Distribution Industry Group. Prior to joining DHG, Hunter taught accounting and auditing at Wake Forest University for one year. He started his public accounting career with Ernst & Young in Greenville, SC, and transferred to Charlotte in 1983. Hunter is currently a member of the NC State Board of CPA Examiners. Read more.

Kenan Gay joined Development Advisors (DAI) in 2012 to provide site selection and incentive negotiation services for manufacturing, distribution, office, HQ, and real estate development projects.

He has been engaged on numerous expansion and relocation projects ranging in size from $2 million to $850 million, for international and domestic companies both publicly traded and privately held. Kenan frequently speaks on the topics of site selection and incentive negotiation throughout the U.S. and China, most recently in an October 2015 seminar series in the cities of Shanghai, Wuxi, Hangzhou, and Nanjing, China. Kenan holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Juris Doctor from the Charlotte School of Law (magna cum laude). Read more.

Ms. Gutting represents corporations, partnerships, and individuals in all phases of tax controversy, including IRS and state Department of Revenue audits, appeals and tax litigation. Her work encompasses many aspects of federal and state and local tax controversy and planning. Mrs. Gutting advises clients on complicated tax matters, seeking to minimize the impact of disputes and resolve them efficiently. In partnership with our tax group, Ms. Gutting identifies and manages actual or potential tax controversies during a transaction's planning phase, particularly with regard to individual, partnership, and income taxation issues.

Additionally, Ms. Gutting is a tenured Associate Professor of Law at the Charleston School of Law. Previously, she was Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Florida – Levin College of Law’s Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation program. Read more.


John is a Tax Partner in the Charlotte office of Dixon Hughes Goodman with more than 20 years of tax experience focusing on state & local tax and accounting management and reporting. Prior to joining the firm, John was a director in the Industry Services Group tax practice of a Big Four firm.  There his emphasis was in tax consulting services and public company tax provision audits of Fortune 500 companies in the utility/energy and manufacturing/distribution industries regarding ASC740, federal, and state & local income tax matters including the uncertain tax positions associated with clients’ adoption of FIN48. Janice currently serves as a Tax Director in the DHG Private Equity practice. In this role, she leads cross functional teams that execute tax due diligence and tax strategies for private equity groups and their portfolio companies. Janice also provides tax structuring services for merger and acquisition clients, successor liability transaction analysis and tax classification analysis of target companies. Read more.


Phil Laminack is a Senior Manager with Dixon Hughes Goodman, focusing on federal, state, and international tax matters for public and private corporations. Phil has more than 12 years of experience in public accounting, serving clients in the retail, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, energy, and hospitality industries. Phil has extensive experience managing the tax compliance and reporting function for large, multinational businesses. He also has a strong background in accounting for income taxes under ASC 740 (FAS 109) and in resolving tax controversy.

Prior to joining Dixon Hughes Goodman, Phil worked with a Big Four accounting firm where he served as the tax manager on multiple financial statement audit engagements for both SEC and non-SEC clients. She has fifteen-plus years of executive search experience, including five years of specialization in search services for the automotive dealership industry. Her automotive retail clients include some of the nation’s Top 100 dealer groups, as well as smaller, family-owned organizations across the country. Successful placements include positions in all areas of dealership accounting, general management, sales management and fixed operations management. Ellen Watson has over six years’ experience performing diverse business valuation engagements including valuations for Fortune 1000 businesses related to restructuring initiatives, valuations related to the fair market value method for interest allocation under IRC 861, valuations of closely-held businesses for estate / gift tax planning purposes, stock valuations for privately-held companies pursuant to Internal Revenue Code 409A, and valuations required for compliance with ASC 805. Ellen has worked with clients in numerous industries including restaurants, technology, food and beverage services, manufacturing, healthcare, and business services.
